Have you ever experienced a traveling nightmare? My family just endured our first one and this right here is the exact reason we do not enjoy flying!
As I write this I am going off of 39 hours of no sleep. Crazy right? I just barely got my daughter to sleep and figured since I just didn't have the energy to get my work out in and could at least blog about our traumatic experience yesterday.
We got to the airport with plenty of time to return our rental car, check our bags, and we even have some grub and beers. About 45 mins before our flight is supposed to board the airport makes an announcement that the plane can't land due to thick fog and the plane is being rerouted to Seattle to refuel and decide if the fog has cleared up enough for a decent landing. At this point our options are to wait around to see if the flight can make it, spend the night in Spokane, or fly to Oakland, stay the night in the airport then fly out the next morning. None of these options are looking good for us. We need to get into town before Monday morning so Loren can get to work.
After standing in line forever, they booked us on the morning flight out of Oakland but that wasn't good enough for us so we decided to hop online and book a rental car and drive from Oakland to Placentia. Not the best idea we have ever had but we had to get it done. Finally the flight gets in from Seattle around 8:30PM and we are getting ready to board and take off.
Brooklynn spent a good portion of 4 1/2 hours running around Spokane airport so we were really excited that she would sleep from Spokane to Oakland so we could get some sleep and be ready to drive home. Boy were we wrong! She was so beyond tired that she spent the majority of the flight crying on and off, I was so miserable and I'm sure the passengers around us were as well.
After landing in Oakland around 10:30 PM we had to take a shuttle to the rental car area and then wait in line for a car because quite a few other passengers had the same idea we did. Finally at 11:30 we get ourselves on the road and headed down to Orange County! What a hell of a drive to make at this time. I drove for 90% of the time because Loren had to head to work as soon as we got home. I spent the next 4 1/2 hours drinking Dr. Pepper and chewing my way through a whole bag of sunflower seeds. Lets just say my stomach did not appreciate me after that! In certain areas the fog was so bad that I could barely go 30 MPH. I couldn't make the last hour home, I had to wake Loren up to finish it off.
We finally pulled up to our house around 5:15am, what a relief! I was hoping Brooklynn would sleep for a few more hours so that I could get a cat nap in myself. Well she slept for a few but I did not get that luxury. We walked into the house and instantly I am hit with a huge whiff a poop, thats right you read it right, poop. I got upstairs to see that Missy has just wrecked her cage, poor girl :( . I spent the next 2 hours cleaning up that ordeal and by the time I was done and I cleaned myself up then Brooklynn was up at our day began. Oh and I forgot to mention that when Loren tried to head off to work his car battery was dead. Yup, thats right!
Needless to say we are so happy to be home and I am so happy to finish this off and crawl into my nice comfy bed and sleep! Do any of you have traveling nightmares?
